Oils of the Bible: Cedarwood

When I first began exploring natural alternatives to care for myself and my family, I seemed to continually run into the same "new age" belief systems and it seemed that people equate oils and healing to voodoo or some crazing witch doctoring. It is very important to me that what I choose in my life line up with the word of God. I do not always succeed in this, as I am human, but I do try. Exploring essential oils was no different. What I found in my research is that the bible speaks frequently about healing with oils and anointing with oils. There are several specific oils that are mentioned by name so I want to share those with you. This post will speak about Cedarwood.

Cedarwood is from the plant family Pinaccae. It originates from Morocco and the USA. The species is most closely related to Cedars of Lebanon. Throughout antiquity, cedarwood has been used in medicines. The Egyptians used it for embalming the dead. It was used as bot a traditional medicine and an incense in Tibet. It is used to fight hair loss, it is antibacterial and a lymphatic stimulant . It is used for ADHD and skin problems. It can be applied or taken as a dietary supplement.

It is mentioned in the bible in the following verses:

Leviticus 14:51-52
Numbers 19:6
Numbers 24:6
2 Samuel 5:11
2 Samuel 7:21
2 Samuel 7:7
1 Kings 4:33
1 Kings 5:6
1 Kings 5:8
1 Kings 5:10
1 Kings 6:9
1 Kings 9:11
2 Kings 19:23
1 Chronicles 22:4
2 Chronicles 1:15
2 Chronicles 2:8
2 Chronicles 9:27
Ezra 3:7
Isaiah 41:19
Ezekiel 17:22-23
Zechariah 11:2

So as you can see there is plenty of evidence that the use of essential oils is biblical and there is more to come. Tomorrow......Cinnamon and Fir!!! :)
